Landfill #6

Landfill #6

I've modified this one a bit.

Some more from the sketch book:

  1. I love the gestural quality of your work as well as the mystery. My eyes roam around and around in each piece and don't want to stop. In Landfill #6 you achieve a remarkable balance between forms and colors - a dynamic equilibrium. Your work is beautiful, powerful, and sophisticated! Fantastic.

  2. The #6 one comes alive for me.

Great organic shapes in the sketch book. Bold.

  3. Stan, I really like what you've done with #6, but I gotta admit that I am blown away with your sketches. The forms, the shading, the values, the compositions all come to life for me and excite me. Love it!

  4. Hi Kathy - Another of my valued friends and treasured critique givers has also called my work gestural as well. I remember the day when I was so constrained by boundaries and small brushes that I couldn't gesture my way out of a wet paper bag. The problem was I couldn't stay inside the lines even with the small brushes. So the resulting style was something of an expressionist self-incarcerated by fear of coloring outside the lines. I have to be bold and free. When I'm not gestural my paintings suck! Bold and Free also happens to be the title of a book by Maxine Masterfield.

Hi Casey - I appreciate your comments. As for the new organic sketches; they were a result of experimentation with a more curvilinear division of space.

Hi Don - Yes these are quite different from my piles of debris of late aren't they? As I mentioned above in my reply to Casey I was looking for a different approach to compositional division of space. They are actually abstracted figures that I intend to gradually work into my Landfill Series; if I can stay focused long enough.
